The MSI GL66 is an impressive gaming laptop in terms of price and power. In terms of price-to-performance ratio, nothing else comes close to MSI GL66 and believe us when we say that this gaming laptop has more to it than its price tag.
It may cost you less than $1,500, which is quite possibly one of the best gaming laptop deals you could ever land on, but don’t underestimate the MSI GL66. The CPU is a 1.9GHz Intel Core i7-11800H, which is far from what we’re accustomed to seeing in a typical RTX 3070 laptop. But this is expected given the laptop’s price tag, so the tradeoff was well worth it.
But it’s not only the CPU power that’s affected by the price tag. The battery life of the MSI GL66 is only about three hours, and it doesn’t have that much of a cooling system.
CPU-wise, it still delivers power to reliably handle AAA games with ease. The laptop’s RAM sits at 16GB with 512GB of storage. Granted, you’re not going be able to store all of the AAA games without deleting a few of them.
But if you’re after a compact video editing machine, the Razer Blade 14 is the better alternative. However, if you want a compact yet powerful gaming machine for less than $1,500 and the underpowered CPU (at least compared to other brands) does not bother you, you really can’t go wrong with MSI GL66.

The laptop’s lightweight design sits enables you to lug this beast around without making you sweat. The laptop weighs 5lbs and is about an inch and a half thick. It’s as thick as a book, but doesn’t take up a lot of space inside your bag.
The storage here is probably the best one on this list. If you’re particular about storage, this is the RTX 3070 laptop for you. Sitting at 1TB SSD, you can store games and video files without worrying about deleting some of them to make space for more. Of course, you can always make room for more with an external SSD, all thanks to its many ports.
What FPS Can You Expect From A RTX 3070 Gaming Laptop?
Any of the RTX 3070 laptop we mentioned above can promise excellent performance and value. You’re getting X-gen Intel Core i7 CPUs or AMD Ryzen CPUs and at least 16GB of RAM with 512GB SSD for storage.
You can basically run games such as Battlefield 2042 at max settings and still sit at about 47.3FPS. COD Vanguard may float at about 43.8FPS in 4K ultra settings, but it still runs as smooth as it would on a PC.
For the newer AAA games, you can expect to float between 40 and 50FPS at ultra or max settings. But for the older games, you’ll hit 100FPS for ultra settings without any difficulty. But for some gaming laptops, the FPS might drop significantly if it’s unplugged.
Always make sure that your laptop’s plugged in when you’re gaming. Otherwise, you’re running on the onboard GPU power.
How Does It Compare To Other Future Brands of Laptop Video Cards?
Even with the advent of RTX 3080 gaming laptops and PCs, the RTX 3070 laptop is still very competitive in terms of value and performance. Compared to an RTX 3080, an RTX 3070 laptop doesn’t really have that much of a discrepancy in terms of overall performance.
RTX 3080 laptops only perform 15% better than an RTX 3070 gaming laptop, while a gaming laptop with an RTX 3070 Ti is only 8% to 11% ahead of the 3070.
